TREND ≠ TRENDY
A trend goes beyond current aesthetics and ‘the color of the year'.
It is a directional shift unfolding across multiple domains and industries over time, driven by deeper forces shaping changes in behaviours, needs, values, and technologies.
Trend research, in my practice, goes beyond the next viral gadget or style but it's about spotting what's emerging across these domains and why it matters.
fashion
Fashion, beyond clothes, is a visual expression of desire, identity and traditions.
A lens through which I read cultural change, made visible in shapes, colours and materials.
It is deep , against superficiality.
It carries values, meaning and responsibility.
FORESIGHT
FORESIGHT ≠ FORECASTING
Foresight does not predict the future, because the future is uncertain, plural, and cannot be predicted.
It is the discipline that integrates the art and science of structured methods and systemic tools to observe, analyse, interpret and explore possible and alternative futures in the mid-to-long term informing present decision-making.
It is an exploratory, collaborative, creative, anticipatory practice.
Embraces uncertainty under complex dynamics of change and challenges assumptions, needing strategy, imagination and activation.
FUTURES LITERACY
is the competence to empathise with emerging futures, see their complex dynamics and decide to step into uncertainty, using those imaginaries to draw new pathways, orient their directions and shape change.
FUTURE(S)
IT’S FUTURES - IS PLURAL,
non linear, to be shaped, it has multiple possibilities.
Everyone has a different view of the future, reflecting past experiences, living contexts and beliefs.
Everyone sees their future at different extents.
Hence, it is not possible to determine or predict a singular future without leaving someone behind.
Even when named singularly, I stand by this belief.
PREFERABLE FUTURE
PREFERABLE TO WHOM ?
Working toward preferable futures means defining a long-term vision and acting in that direction.
But preferability is never neutral.
What is desirable for some may not be for others, and any vision of a preferable future inevitably leaves someone behind.
It is essential to acknowledge this, and to understand and reveal the hidden assumptions behind our desirable trajectories.
SPECULATION
SPECULATION ≠ FANTASY
It is a disciplined practice of questioning the present and exploring what it might be, opening new ways of thinking to responsibly take decisions today.
It is a stretch of imagination that looks at far futures and roots back in present actions, using fiction, scenarios, and experiential artefacts to make possible futures tangible.
STRATEGIC IMAGINATION
Strategy needs imagination as much as imagination needs strategy. Strategic Imagination is the capacity to blend creative exploration, foresight methodologies, and critical research to navigate complexity, embrace uncertainty, and make futures actionable.
innovation
INNOVATION ≠ TECHNOLOGY
Not everything AI is innovation, nor all novelties.
Innovation is meaningful when it responds to real problems or needs, disrupting the present context and, over time, shifting paradigms and values.
Is a necessary standard, the baseline from which every design decision should began.
It is environmental, social and ethical, a structural systemic change.
Not a selling label, not an option. Changing materials is not enough.
